The following clip is from the movie Whiplash. In this scene one of the trombone players is out of tune and Fletcher tries to find out who it is. I think this clip is a great example on how not to teach. Instead of trying to help the player correct their tuning mistakes he kicks him out of the band. The worst part is, is that the player he kicked out wasn’t even the player who was out of tune. Fletcher degrades his student by verbally abusing him. Calling him out and making fun of him based on his physical appearance. The player feels so bad that they begin to cry. If there is one thing that teachers should take away, its the fact that no one should go this hard on their students. Abuse like this could lead to mental health issues in the future.
The following clip is from the movie School of Rock. I think that this a form of good teaching in the classroom. Although this whole movie is really a joke I find this scene would actually work in the classroom. I remember just the other day in one of my classes our professor played a child's song to help us memorise. I think that learning through song is an effective way to learn as it is a fun and interactive way to learn. I think this method would work best with kids. However even now in university it was still helpful for me. I think teachers should take away that through song learning could be made fun and interactive for some students.
